Lesson 10- The danger in Prolonged isolation

Writer's picture: LindiLindi
"And He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over unclean spirits."- Mark 6:7

Whenever Jesus sends the disciples to do something, He sends them out in pairs. Of course, there were times when Jesus was in solitude, like when He was in prayer, and when He was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness for 40 days. Still, Jesus knew the importance of community and being with other people. Hence, He had disciples and would send them out in pairs.

"Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it's just too bad, because there is no one to help him." -Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

There is much danger in prolonged isolation. I'm going to talk about the negative results I saw in my own life:

1. Overthinking

I was over-analysing situations I had no control over. One overthinks the past. over-questions things. There is no one to get me out of my own head, or to distract me. The least important things became so important, and I fiddled over every little detail in life.

2. Loneliness

It is a lonely place. I know that one can be lonely even in social situations, but as introverted as I am, I still wanted to be with people.

Ultimately, one thing this pandemic has taught us is that no matter how 'independent' or 'introverted' one is, we need to be with people.

We need each other.
