For a long time, I placed my value in academic results.
Throughout high school, the more trophies and certificates I received, the more valued I felt.
Unfortunately, university isn't like that. I went through this intense period of questioning my own value until someone told me, "You have put your identity in achievements and progress. You need to put your identity in something else."
It is crucial to evaluate where /in whom you have placed your identity.
Is it in your achievements and marks?
Is it in the money you make or your job?
Is it how much attention you get from people?
Do you find your worth in your boyfriend/girlfriend?
Do not put your identity in anything that fluctuates.
This means, do not put your identity and value in things that are inconsistent. People are inconsistent; money is inconsistent; feelings are inconsistent; qualifications are valuable today and outdated tomorrow. Sometimes life is progressing, while other times it feels stagnant.
Hence, when you place your identity and value in things that fluctuate, the way you value yourself will also fluctuate. When you make more money, you feel more valuable. When you achieve more, you feel more valuable and worthy.
But when things go downhill, you begin to question your identity and worth.
If you place your value, worth and identity in something that is inconsistent, you become worthy sometimes, unworthy other times. That is not true; you are valuable regardless of any circumstances.
It is a goal for me to reach a place where, regardless of the circumstances, because God is good all the time, and He sees me as valuable all the time, I ought to recognise that I am worthy all the time; that I am valuable all the time.
Only God remains good forever. He is unchanging and consistent. If there is one place to put your identity and value in, it is in Him.
-When your identity is in the One who never changes, then your identity is secure.
-When your value is in the One who never changes, then your value never changes, because He values you all the time. You are His treasured possession.
-When your worth is in the unchanging Father, you are always worthy, no matter what you do, say or feel.
Sending love and peace.
