Hair loss affects young men too.

When my hair started breaking off in matric, I watched several videos on YouTube about hair loss. I stumbled upon videos of young guys who posted their journeys of premature balding and how they felt. I realised that balding significantly impacts males and their self-esteem, especially when it happens earlier in life.

Now, I know that I am not male. However, I feel it is necessary to acknowledge the impact of premature balding on males.

Androgenic alopecia, also called male pattern baldness, is a hereditary male condition. This condition affects 95% of males at some point in their life, usually later on. Whilst there could be other reasons for balding including malnutrition, and other medical conditions, we will focus on male pattern baldness.

According to Healthline, 25% of men start to lose their hair before 21 due to Androgenic Alopecia; 66% of men lose their hair before 35, and 85% of men before 50 years old.

These statistics show that there are many men who experience balding in the early stages of their lives, some in their teenage years already. And just like women, men style and partition their hair in a particular way to hide the balding. This takes effort and causes stress. Furthermore, it causes men to become more self-conscious, especially when it happens earlier in life.

To all the males who read our blog, we want to let you know that we acknowledge these struggles and challenges. What you are experiencing is not abnormal, so many young men experience it.

Hope you enjoyed this informative blog!
